site word flower garden

My DS5 is having a hard time remmebering his site words, and he also finds them boring to go over, so I am always tring to find new ways to grab his attention long enough for him to remember them. I had him learning with that caterpiller idea where a new word is added and he can watch the body grow, but he lost interest in that real quick. SO, for now I am onto a new idea with dite words, a growing flower garden. Right now we have one flower growing, and it has not budded yet. ;o)

Sparklebox:Assemble a high-frequency word plant

I went onto the internet to search for ideas from fellow teachers and homeschoolers for suggestions and ideas to help him to learn them. I cam across this website called SPARKLEBOX.COM (ALL FREE). THey had other ideas for site words, but I thought that this one was kinda fun to watch and learn at the same time. I just love the idea that as my son learns new words he can watch the flower grow until it gets a bloom. I printed out the leaves and flower and then I laminated them for more stability. (gotta love the laminator). The flowers are growing in front of our Homemade apple tree that is being used for our character education.

Alphabet Printables/Workbox Ideas

I got these wonderful printables from another homeschooling site. I fell in love with them once I saw them. There is ABC puzzles, practice cards, 3 letter words for each letter, ASL cards, constant cards, short and long vowel cards, dot to dot cards, phonetic cards, print and cursive puzzles, playdough mats, coloring pages, cut and paste sheets, and links to other great inspirational sites.

My 2 yr old loves these. He has learned half of his alphabet bot upper and lower case letters. He has learned to show readiness in writing with the prewriting cards with the practice letter cards, he has learned to match, sign, and at the same time. HE IS HAVING FUN. ( I dont push the learning on him, he wants to learn with his brother, now to just get potty trained and we will be set).

PRINTABLE UPPER & LOWER CASE ABC BIPLANE BANNER

This find has been so wonderful. My 2 yr old son just loves it. He has sat down and just started to call out the letters while pointing to them.

You can print them out in black and white.

Color them

I laminated them for duability.

Punched holes in each end of the banner sections except for the last one.
I also punched a hole in the end of the plane.

Then I used fasteners to connect each section.

and Presto!

You have a wonderful ABC plane that can be printed in both the uppercase and the lowercase letters

Here is what I did to mine. I colored it before I laminated, then I added fasteners to give it some movememt.
